In an effort to restore Mahua trees, many of which were destroyed in forest fires last year, Adivasi widows in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district are raising saplings in the community-managed nurseries.
Women and youth in Panna are making efforts to increase tree cover in their community forest boundaries with local species.
Since mahua is the main source of income for the Adivasi community in Panna, the nurseries also serve as an opportunity for economic support to the widows.
